Diosario is a book created in collaboration with Helena in an A to Z format with a selection of gods and spirits found in ancient Peruvian culture. This illustrated book takes a free textual approach to these gods, presented in the first person, with their unique powers and strange behaviours. As the book's illustrator, I wanted to create the first layer of the narrative image, a unique set of images with these creatures that emphasised the power of each one, curiously. In this way, there is an individual narrative on each page of the book. On the other hand, I wanted to convey a connection and uniformity to unite the object. The choice to work with five overlapping colours played an important role in achieving this goal, but it was not enough.
To create a second layer of readability in the images, I created two additional characters, two children, never mentioned in the text, who go on a journey to find and meet the gods and spirits. This visual narrative runs through the entire book like a connecting thread.
I tried to enrich the characters, the boy and the girl, with human feelings and emotions, like an actress who embodies the character and then represents her, in my case, through drawing. I also created these children to represent a mirror of the reader, the child who reads them. They will allow the reader to fly, ride, swim, feel fear, and experience excitement.
